Phonics

VZEC0107At Clarendon Road Primary School, we teach phonics through the DfE validated scheme ‘Supersonic Phonic Friends’.
Supersonic Phonic Friends is a highly engaging, systematic, synthetic approach to phonics, ranging from simple to complex spellings of the alphabetic code. Use of the scheme from Nursery onwards, ensures absolute consistency in the delivery of phonics throughout EYFS and KS1.

The sessions are supported by the Supersonic Phonic Friends characters, who represent a range of skills. This approach ensures our pupils develop the confidence to apply their skills in the application of reading and writing.

The children respond really positively to the characters and the phonics learning resulting in them become secure readers when they leave Year 1.

The children are exposed to a range of reading schemes, which are matched to their phonic knowledge.
